Die Sprache, published on behalf of the Vienna Language Society, has been published since 1949 and is mainly devoted to historical and comparative linguistics. The focus is traditionally on the Indo-Germanic (Indo-European) languages in all their diversity. In two issues per year, essays and reviews of a high international standard are published in the common scientific languages. Special attention is paid to innovation and updating the state of knowledge while maintaining thematic diversity. In addition to comparative grammar and etymology, source studies, epigraphy, linguistic text interpretation and aspects of cultural and intellectual history are also taken into account.
